...two worlds were created, born from fire and rock, time and space, logic and maybe an ounce of magic. The first was named Earth. It was a beautiful planet, filled with plants and animals of all kinds. One could live forever and never understand them all, never realize the important role each individual played in maintaining the delicate system that made life possible on this planet. Delicate it was, but life thrived.
It's creator was overjoyed. Many times the being had tried to invent new life. Eight times previous the Creator had tried, and eight times the Creator had failed, leaving behind barren worlds, planets devoid of anything but rock, dust and gas. Looking now on this first success, the Creator could almost forget his failure. But it wasn't long before he began to see mistakes; things he could improve, things that needed revision, especially when it came to his most wonderous creation, man-kind.
Truly wonderful were these creatures, evolving so rapidly and taking in the world around them. Imagine the Creator's shock when they breeched the boundaries of their own world and sought to explore the planets orbiting with their own, his shame when they discovered his past failures. But these humans were flawed. Their progress was killing his beloved Earth. Day after day, he watched as great forests fell, oceans filled with waste, and the air became clouded with filth. Worst of all, his creatures were dying, most at the hands of man and the rest as a result. Earth was dying and the humans refused to acknowledge it.
With great sadness, the Creator realized he had again failed. Turning sadly to his last canvas, the second planet, he vowed to begin again. Should he fail again, it would be the last time. This planet began it's existence much as the first. Greenery covered it's lands, blue waters surrounding them. After much thought, he finally added sentient life. These creatures he created were different from those on Earth. They shared their souls with the world around them, feeling the strength and weakness of their planet. They sought to protect it as best they could.
But with this connection came sarcifice. Progress was lost to them. They were bound to live life in conjunction with their planet, without the comforts of technology that the humans had developed on their world. However, they weren't without skill. What they lacked in logical advancement, they gained in the natural powers of their planet, those that humans remained oblivious to on Earth. These powers were collectively known as the Mana, or Magic in our language. The creatures on this planet were happy and lived in peace. They loved their home, and so gave it a name; Gaia.
The Creator was pleased. Finally, it seemed he had succeeded. He could not contain his joy and for many eons he watched Gaia thrive, forgetting the planet Earth that was quickly spiraling to it's demise. One day, the Creator managed to pull his attention away from his masterpiece, deciding it was his responsibility to at least check on Earth. With great sadness did he look upon it's dying masses, tearing at his heart and soul. Suddenly, it struck him. There was a chance, a very slim chance, but a chance nonetheless, that Earth could be saved.
When Gaia was created, the Creator had been sure to protect it, hiding it from view of the traveling humans of Earth and thus saving it from their destructive ways of progression. Gaia had done so well, maybe its inhabitants could teach the humans a thing or two. However brilliant this plan was, it had to be undertaken with extreme caution. The Creator could not risk contaminating his only success with the human's poison.
And so it was that the Portal of Gaisha was weaved, a direct connection between the two worlds. The Creator made his selections among the masses of creatures of Gaia, picking those most in tune with their world to send to Earth. These creatures made their journey through the Portal with great pride, knowing they were the Earth's last hope...
